The Avalon Tower project in Lower Hutt, Wellington involves a major refurbishment and structural upgrade of the former TVNZ headquarters building.
BLACK was engaged to manage the $16 million major refurbishment and structural upgrade of the former TVNZ headquarters building in Wellington. With an impressive total space of 6,600 sqm, the 10-storey building is to be converted into 48 apartments and commercial space.
Before the project was put on hold, BLACK completed a range of on-site construction works. These included structural upgrades such as installing steel bracing members, plating, and concrete diaphragm slabs. Civil works were also undertaken, including the creation of new car parking areas.
A landscape package was completed, alongside hydraulic and drainage upgrades. Façade works involved the removal of windows and preparation for the installation of new double-glazed windows throughout, while new membrane roofing systems were added.
The project also included upgrades to the fire, mechanical, and electrical systems, as well as demolition and a significant asbestos removal process. BLACK managed the works around the existing data centre and cell sites within the building and commenced works on the lobby upgrade.
