BLACK was engaged to deliver the exterior refurbishment of Barfoot & Thompson’s high-profile Ponsonby branch on Ponsonby Road in Auckland.

The works involved extensive upgrades including roof and gutter replacement, canopy upgrades with new cedar soffits, installation of a new shopfront and frameless glass entry doors, full window replacement with aluminium joinery, construction of a rear paved patio area, and recladding with a STO plaster system.

The project required precise coordination between two contractors operating simultaneously on-site. BLACK was responsible for the exterior works, while a separate contractor undertook the internal fitout—requiring close interface management, particularly where services crossed over (e.g. soffit lighting and electrical terminations).

Access restrictions along Ponsonby Road presented another challenge, with Auckland Transport issuing limited work permits. This necessitated tight planning and execution of soffit works during short approved windows to avoid disruption.
