We were selected by NZX to partner with them for the design and construction of their new flagship Auckland office. The project was a single-level fitout undertaken in one of Auckland CBD’s premier commercial buildings.
The project comprised of highly detailed architectural finishes designed by Warren & Mahoney which were complemented by technical services, audio-visual, and lighting installations to meet the operational requirements of New Zealand’s financial exchange.
Multi-functional spaces provided operational flexibility to the client through the front-of-house area(s) via the use of operable walls and relocatable furniture solutions.
The project included the installation of a number of components and finishes sourced from global suppliers. This presented significant programming and scheduling issues given the freight and manufacturing delays caused by the global Covid-19 pandemic. BLACK worked tirelessly in partnership with the client and design teams to come up with temporary solutions, alternative finishes and fixtures, and revised programming to accommodate these delays while still ensuring the end product was world-class.
ECI engagement of BLACK resulted in significant pre-construction design & cost reviews resulting in budget reductions and cost savings, and a more coordinated set of design documentation reducing project RFIs. This project was completed one month ahead of the programme, defects were closed out prior to contractual PC, and costs came in under final QS budgets. The early investment in Health and Safety systems contributed to a zero-harm Health and Safety outcome.
Despite procurement impacts, the project was completed and surrendered to the client on-schedule.

Through our early involvement and management of the design process, we ensured that all the selections were compliant with the budget ensuring that the project was not only completed on time but under the initial project budget.
Successfully managed procurement without programme impact within a Covid-19 impacted global supply chain.
Managed and adapted to programme impacts outside of our control to reschedule works which resulted in significant numbers of contractors on-site at any given time while maintaining quality and safety performance.
